Along with decadent weather, skin-flaunting clothes and gorgeous flowers comes one more reason to absolutely adore spring: bright, mouthwatering makeup. Though colors year round brighten up our palettes beautifully, there’s something especially engaging and mesmerizing about spring’s bold, fearless hues.

We spoke with celebrity makeup artist DeeDee Marcelli, who has worked with some of the biggest names in the business at the American Music Awards, Golden Globes, Academy Awards and much more, to glean some suggestions for spring’s most-wanted shades – along with a few other can’t-miss tips that will make us all just a bit more beautiful.

“I love the bright and intense liners to pop the eyes,” says Marcelli. “I like to create an overall look in bronzy and neutral shades on the lids, and then accentuate the eyes with the liners, so that the liners are the only accents for the eyes.” She recommends Urban Decay liquid liners ($18) in Ecstasy and Smog, and one of her personal favorites, Bed Head Big Fat Fun liner in green ($13.60).

1. Smoky Eyes

Smoky eyes have always been popular but the black and gray shades used to achieve them aren’t always appropriate for spring. This season try smoky eyes using brown, gold, violet or green shadow. Look for eye shadow collections with four colors in the same family to easily achieve smoky spring eyes. Usually the lightest color goes on your lid area, the middle color in the crease and the darkest color to the outer corner top of your lid, for depth. The 4th color (if any) is used as a highlight – below the brow area, or in the inner corner of the eye.
