: Makeup For Asian Women (9789812610799): Jacelyn Tay: Books
‘Makeup for Asian women’ is written by Jacelyn Tay, one of Singapore’s leading actresses. Her own experiences in makeup, perfected by trial and error and her observations of the work of professional makeup artists have resulted in a great makeup book for Asian women, where she addresses most of the common problems Asian women face with makeup.
She explains how to do eye makeup on different Asian eye shapes: almond shaped (with narrow or thick double eyelids), small monolids, long monolids and round eyes. For someone who is beyond the basics of makeup, this will be the most interesting part of the book, but here and there were also other interesting things I picked up from this book.
Of course, this book contains a lot about the basic things of makeup, but she takes it a notch further by not only showing how to do eye makeup on the most common eye shapes, but also how you can shade and highlight parts of your face and fix ‘problems’ like close-set eyes, wide-set eyes, undefined bridge and certain face shapes, giving your face more definition. She also addresses the varieties in skin color of Asian women, ranging from fair, medium to dark and gives tips about which makeup colors look great on what skin color.

Theatre and stage makeup tips
Good theatrical makeup is sometimes overlooked and under appreciated because it works so well in conjunction with the mood and stage setting and compliments the actor’s performance. However, theatrical makeup is an important element of any production. Here is some information and ideas to help you successfully create your own looks for the theatre and stage.
Make sure your theatrical makeup kit contains the necessities. A makeup kit should contain the following basic items: foundation or makeup base, rouge, highlights, eye makeup, eyebrow pencil, mascara, lipstick, applicator sponge, cleansing cream and tissues. Because all of these items area available in a variety of forms and brands carefully consider your purpose when selecting your items. Makeup options also range from inexpensive Halloween makeup to professional makeup and special materials.
Consider the mood of the performance as well as costume and stage setting. Is the tone light and airy or brutal and garish? Your makeup choices should enhance the nature of the performance and create the illusion that the actor is his character. Using Makeup Brushes for Applying Cosmetics
Types of Makeup Brushes and How to Use them to Apply Cosmetics.
If you want to own a really good set of makeup brushes, you can acquire them one at a time to suit your cosmetic needs, or you can buy them already assorted in a bag or box. While some cosmetics come with their own brushes, most professional makeup artists and models buy brushes the way artists do: with an eye to quality in manufacture and purpose. In most cases, you want to buy the best brushes you can afford: they are the tools that will create a flawless makeup look.
If you aren’t sure how to use makeup brushes, look at the cheap ones that come along with inexpensive drugstore makeup. They’re usually made of plastic, and are usually coarser than they should be, with uneven bristle lengths. They may come apart even as you use them, scattering occasional bristles throughout your makeup or on your face. Basically, cheap makeup brushes are like the bolts that come with some assembly kits: the cheapest available products that make it look like you’re getting a discount. Bookmark this beauty article
