What is Hypoallergenic Makeup?

Hypoallergenic makeup is makeup which has been made from materials which are unlikely to cause an allergic reaction. Like other hypoallergenic products, hypoallergenic makeup merely makes an allergic episode less likely, rather than eliminating potential allergens altogether. Many department stores, health food stores, and beauty parlors sell hypoallergenic makeup along with offering consultations which provide advice about using and finding hypoallergenic makeup, although consumers should be aware that hypoallergenic products tend to be more expensive than conventional products.

There are a number of reasons to choose to use hypoallergenic makeup. In some cases, people have a clear and demonstrable allergy to an ingredient in makeup, making it necessary to find products which do not contain that ingredient. In other instances, people may want to use hypoallergenic products to avoid the risk of developing an allergy. People who wear makeup for prolonged periods of time, such as actresses, may favor hypoallergenic makeup for this reason.

Choosing the Right Makeup Foundation Colour

Choosing the Right Makeup Foundation Colour

Jun 5, 2010 Heidi Bolton

The face is what is mostly on show each day, so it is important to make sure it looks its best. Once you have chosen the right type of makeup foundation that is right for your skin, you need to choose the right colour match. Having an obvious line between the face and the neck is not a good look. When foundation is applied correctly, in the right tone, it should look like you are not wearing anything. The idea of foundation is to cover blemishes and make your complexion appear smooth. It isn’t about adding tan to your face. If it is colour you are after, try a bronzer instead.

The History of Cosmetics – A Vanity Fair by Arden Mellor

Are we really a vain society? Do we really have a more-than-normal pride in our appearance? To answer that, you’d have to define normal. There’s nothing wrong with being vain, as long as we don’t get carried away with it. We just want to look good – to look our best. And people have been working hard at looking their best for centuries. And that’s why cosmetics has such a long history. We’d like to take you through the history of cosmetics here; and let’s just see how similar we are to people living in 10,000 BC.

Nontoxic, Green Makeup for Professionals

Though it may feel like makeup is a necessity when you wake up exhausted, hung over or both, in reality our little pots and tubes of color are extravagances. And like four-dollar coffees, frosted-to-death cupcakes and doggie sweaters, these little indulgences are what makes life fun.

But at what cost do our good times come, to both our health and that of the planet (which is really one and the same)? I’m not the only one who thinks that life’s little luxuries should come with zero impact; if it’s not necessary, then the first rule should be “do no harm.”

Men’s skin care / men’s grooming: A History of Mens grooming; Men makeup and skin care

A History of Mens grooming Men’s makeup and skin care

Mens grooming and makeup has its origins in evolution. Mother Nature chose to endow the male species with more color and splendor. The more a male stood out from his competition, the greater his chance of attracting a mate. It is for this reason men have had, and always will have a predisposition towards their personal grooming and use of makeup to be prominent in a competitive society.

Cosmetics have been used for as long as there have been men to use them. The association between men and makeup was mentioned in the Old Testament (Ezekiel 23:40), and eye shadow was used in Egyptian burials dating back to 10,000 BC. Mens grooming and skin care has its origins in the word “cosmetae” which was first used to describe Roman slaves whose function it was to bathe men in perfume. Since the Egyptians, each subsequent civilization invented unique words that referred to cosmetics and fragrance as one science. The Greeks used the word ‘kosmein’ which conveys the thought – to decorate, to make-up, to care for and to produce harmony between body and mind. Grooming and to make-up the external appearance to enhance ones beauty in harmony with the mind was regarded by many in pre-Christian Greece as being the basic requirement for a deep inner feeling of happiness.
