This Fall/Winter 2010 season marked the 15th Anniversary of MAC Cosmetics involvement in New York Fashion Week and their impact in London, Paris and Milan was bigger than ever before! MAC Cosmetics supported nearly 200 shows during the Fall/Winter 2010 Collections. MAC continued as the official sponsor of London Fashion week, had a strong presence in Milan and Paris, and hosted shows, events and presentations at MAC & Milk and throughout New York.

I was very lucky, actually, to work for eight years with Rona Barrett on her TV interview show doing makeup for many celebrities. Working with different people, I learned about the many varieties of skin tone and because each of these celebrities had a favorite makeup, I worked with many different products. Most of the makeups were much the same-very low in pigment and too orange, pink or yellow in color. Few colors really looked natural; you had to blend and mix a lot. I would end up creating colors that worked well for each of these people, and from mixing all of these colors and working with so many different consistencies and textures, I learned what made a good makeup.
And so I began experimenting, because I felt someone should change the products that were available to the professional makeup artist to make them more user-friendly. At about the same time, the lighting changed with the advent of fast film. The new low-light film emulsions and low-light television cameras didn’t require the subject to be lighted so intensely, which meant the colors of the make-ups needed to be changed to be more natural in appearance. It took me about 15 years, really, to develop the process for my makeup line.

What is the Average Makeup Artist Salary? A theatrical makeup artist career can take you all over the world. The performing arts are an integral part of nearly all cultures, practiced everywhere from Broadway to Bangkok to your own backyard. A makeup artist may work to enhance, distort or conceal the human features altogether; he or she is skilled in making the young look old, the old look young, covering imperfections or creating elaborate wounds. In addition to a mastery of the various paints, creams and oils that make up makeup (get it?), many theatrical makeup artists also need to know how to create elaborate facial prostheses (such as false noses) and incorporate them seamlessly into an overall look. It is an art with a living canvas, the fruits of which are washed away each night to be painted anew the next day.
While the idea of makeup artistry may call to mind the elaborate designs of Cirque du Soleil and the Lion King, there is also a good living to be made simply making people look like people. Nearly all performing arts require some sort of makeup so that audiences can see the performers’ faces. A skilled makeup artist can have a career with plenty of variety, but a makeup artist salary can be just as variable. Makeup artists may have to work their way up, taking the projects they can get and earning lower salaries, before they hit the big time. Become a makeup artist
How I did it: As a young teen my older sister would pass down her Glamour and Vogue magazines for me to read…or more like _devour_. She also supplied me with endless amounts of cosmetics due to the big “free gift with purchase” trend back in the ’80′s.Captivated by the images I saw on those pages, I would try and duplicate the looks on myself and then soon after any willing participant I could find.
I started doing makeup for all my highschool friends
and that lead to proms and weddings. Soon I was
working as a full time artist in a department store. My
first makeup line that I worked for was Flori Roberts.
However as a “makeup junkie” you were never loyal to just one line so I used everything from Lancome to Chanel,Estee Lauder,Prescriptives, Clinique and M.A.C.
