Putting on Makeup in Fifteen Minutes or Less

How to put on makeup in ten to fifteen minutes and still look good was a question posted on HubPages’ questions/requests section. Although the following suggestions aren’t intended for special-occasion makeup, they may help speed up your regular, morning-makeup routine.

A morning makeup routine doesn’t have to take more than 6 to 10 minutes, assuming you do your main complexion-care routine at night. Keeping make-up together and in the same place at all times saves time. Also, it may seem like a case of stating-the-obvious; but when it comes to keeping make-up time to a minimum, how fast you finish each step may matter more than the number of steps.

Not everyone uses all the make-up items included in the following routine, which means that it won’t take as long for some women as it will for others.

Begin, of course, with washing your face. If you use an under-eye cream or gel apply that, and follow with a light application of moisturizer over the whole face. Once your face is washed applying moisturizer and under-eye cream takes only seconds. The “washing to moisturized” segment of the morning routine takes the longest, and may take as long as five minutes.

If you use concealer for blemishes or dark circles, apply it first. Applying concealer shouldn’t take more than 15 seconds.

Apply foundation, and blend any edges. This, too, takes only seconds. The foundation will set while you apply eye makeup.

Eye makeup takes the longest to apply. Eye shadow and/or liner should follow foundation. (Mistakes are more common when applying eye shadow or liner, and fixing mistakes is easier before you’ve gotten too far into the make-up process.) If you use mascara AND concealer hold off on applying the mascara until you’ve applied concealer. If you don’t use concealer there’s no reason not to apply mascara, and call the eyes, “done”.

Applying eye shadow and liner takes a few seconds for each. Mascara requires a little more time, particularly if you apply more than one coat. Even so, it shouldn’t take more than 45 to 60 seconds to apply mascara. If, for some reason, the lashes take even another minute to finish that’s still only two minutes.

With the foundation’s having set for a few minutes, and with the eyes done or almost done, apply any contouring color and blend edges. This shouldn’t take more than 30 seconds.

Apply blusher, and blend edges. As with contouring color, applying blusher and blending could take up to 30 seconds.

If you use a damp make-up sponge to set the foundation/contour/blusher it shouldn’t take more than 15 or 20 seconds.

If you use a highlighter under eyes or across the tops of the cheekbones apply it after blusher. Applying highlighter should take around 20 seconds.

If you didn’t apply mascara earlier it can be applied at this point in the routine.

Finish with a quick dusting of pressed powder if desired.

To save more time, use “makeup routine light”, which amounts to washing the face, moisturizing, applying foundation and blusher, and selecting two of the three eye makeup items mentioned above. Finish with a quick application of under-eye concealer or highlighter and then a dusting of pressed powder.
