Makeup & Skincare – Make Up Tips For Blondes Expert: Lauren Iverson – 8/3/2006
Question Hi! My name is Jaime Schneider (I am an expert in the teen section) and am in a make up rut!! I have blonde hair and hazel eyes…(you can either look for me on that section or view this link if you have Myspace to get a good idea of my coloring http://www.myspace.com/jaimebaby23.) Anyhoo – I feel like my make up is so BLAH! I’m not a fan of bright colors or make up but feel there is nothing “wow” about my make up at all. I know brunettes have more of a selection and can wear color better but what about us blondes?! How do I create a “wow” look without looking like a tramp? HAHA. I want to make my eyes pop!
Please let me know if you are unable to look at my pic…
Thanks!
Jaime
Answer Hi Jaime and thanks for the question!
Being a blonde has it’s benfits when it comes to makeup, and even though brunettes can pull off makeup looks(i’m one myself), so can blondes! There are just some tricks that you need to know in order to make your look sizzle.
EYES>> I saw youre myspace picture, and from what I can see you have brown eyes.(if you don’t feel free to ask a followup). I have brown eyes myself, and there are many options out there concerning makeup for brown eyes. First you need to start out with a great mascara and pencil liner. THese two items are essential to the look, and if you purchase the right products, eyeshadow will not be necessary. In my case, eyeshadow takes away from a “fresh, dewy” look and not is not that flattering. I would suggest that you go to a department store such as Nordstroms or Sephora to purchase your makeup. Here is what you should get for your eyes…MASCARA>>Benefit Bad Gal Lash. The brush and product consistency is equal to that of Dior Diorshow mascara, a #1 bestseller. The generously sized brush will give your lashes a huge fringe. LINER>>MAC pencil liner in black. The liner glides on smoothly and is very good for smudging. I would suggest that you only line your upperlash line lightly and extend the line a little farther on the edges of your eyes. Just flick the liner upwards towards the ends of your brows to create a cat’s eye. Use your finger to adjust the line.LASH CURLER>> Always use a lash curler before applying mascara. To make the lashes’ curl more natural, curl each lash three times. Try Clinique lash curler or the one from Shu Uemura.
CHEEKS/FACE>>To create a fresh face, avoid foundation at all costs. But that doesnt mean you should sacrifice a smooth even complexion. Buy a tinted mosturizer with a SPF to get a soft glow. I like the tinted mosturizer from Laura Mercier and Stila. Becca also makes a Skin perfector SPF in opal, which will make your skin absolutely radiant. CONCEALER>>Laura Mercier Secret Camoflauge. THis stuff is all I use and tell my clients to use. The product contains two shades, so by blencing the two shades together, you will get the perfect match. Use the concealer under and in the edges of your eyes, on the chin, around the nose and on the forehead if needed. This concealer will be more than enough coverage. Just remeber to use a concealer brush to apply the concelear, and dab it lightly onto your trouble spots.(Sephora makes a 16 dollar concealer brush that is wonderful). BLUSH>> for a extra sexy glow, just apply blush on the apples of your cheeks while smiling. By doing this, your skin will look fresher and you will look younger. Invest in a blush brush from Clinique, since the brushes are bacteria-proof and hardly need to be washed. As far as blush goes, try Nars Blush in Orgasm. The name is crude but looks beuatiful. Another option would be to start using cheek stains. THese are my newest favorites and give you sexy rosy cheeks. Try Tarte Cheeks Stain in Flush or Benefit Bentint. These two products will make your cheeks gorgeous.
LIPS>>As far as a new look, having fuller lips will always update a tired look. Try using LipFusion XL treatment at night for long-term fullness, and LipFusion for during the day. When these two products are used together, you will never have thin lips again. Color-wise, try a lipstain, like the one from Bourjois called Rouge Hyperfix. THe color lasts forever and stains your lips a very sexy longlasting color.
EYEBROWS>>no one really stresses how important brows can be to your overall look. One thing I really noticed from your picture is that you have quite thin eyebrows. This should be a main priority to change since you want a fresher, different look. Grow the brows out and then wax them so they aren’t as small. Brows frame your face and add definiton to your features. They accentuate eyes and add drama to a plain face. It might take time to grow them out, but it’ll be worth it. Just remember to go to a brow specialist and ask them to just take away stray hairs while “retaining your natural brow shape”. After the appointment, don’t go back to plucking and just groom your brow hairs with a brow brush or clear gel like the m=one from Maybelline.
I hope the advice willhelp you acheive a fresh new look and thanks again!
