The 28-pc Master Collection Makeup Artist Brush Set is a set of makeup brushes that is popular among our makeup artist clients. Each makeup artist have his or her own way of using a particular brush. Therefore, we can give you only a general guide as to what they are used for. The following is described as per the picture above from left to right (please note the different hair types given as per the brush specifications above) and though we have grouped some please note they can be made of different hair types, shapes, etc:

Larger BrushesBrush No.1: Buffer (also known as Kabuki, but without the short handle) and is used for blending and buffing of entire face, especially good for buffing powder (such as mineral powder, translucent, etc) to reduce the pore sizes. FYI, this is one of our favourites! If you’ve never tried top quality badger (do not mix up this with some other ones marketed as ‘Italian’ Badger) and would like to find out more you can read about Badger Hair on Makeup Brush Hair Types and Brush Terms page.

Brush No.2,3,4 and 5: Powder and Blush brushes, used over entire face. For eg. Squirrel Hair is really soft and is better for loose powder types makeup (such as translucent, iridescent, bronzers, etc). The Goat Hair which is less soft (still soft enough as we only used top quality hair for all our makeup brushes, be it goat hair or squirrel or others), are better for pressed powder as you need to be able to ‘loosen’ the compacted powder so if the brush is too soft then you won’t pick up enough. Of course, this also depends on how ‘compact’ the compact powder is.

Brush 6,7 and 8: Contour / Cheek Blending Brushes, so they can be used for highlighting/shading of the face.

Medium BrushesBrush 9: Blender for eyes and also used for highlights and shading of other smaller area that you might want to highlight/shade for eg. under the eyes, temples, under the chin, sides of the nose, etc.

Brush 10, 11: Foundation Brush and Camouflage Brush.

Brush 12: Fan-Brush use varies. They include for colour wash on cheeks, foundation, etc. Most makeup artists recommend adding extra loose powder just under the eyes, to catch falling mascara and eyeshadow. So, mostly the fan-brush is used to remove these excess powder at the end and due to its nature, it will not move already set makeup.

Brush 13,14,15,16,17,18,19: For Eye Makeup Applications as well as others. Each makeup brush is used differently, by different makeup artist, depending on the look they want to create. The different shapes really help to achieve precise applications. For eg. Brush 14 is a contoured squirrel brush that can be used for all over eyeshadow application over the entire eyelid as well as, to help soften and blend the edges of the eyeshadows and other very small areas.

Smaller BrushesBrush 20,21,22,23: For Eyes / Concealer / Lips (glosses, liners, covering tiny spots, etc). Like the above brushes, they have many uses and ways to use them.

Brush 24: Eyeliner or Concealer. It is a great way to put eyeliner to give you the Cat-Eye look! Also, great with concealers to cover up really tiny freckles precisely.

Brush 25: To fill in eyebrows or to give definition to both eyes and eyebrows.

Brush 26: Brush and Comb to separate eyelashes after applying mascara.

Brush 27: Spooled Mascara Wand, is great for brushing and grooming (with a little hair spray, gel, etc) eyebrows into shape. Also, to remove powders trapped on eyebrows.

Brush 28: Lip Brush with lid.

What is the difference between our 28-pc Master Collection Makeup Artist Brush Set and our Pure Squirrel Brush Set No.4?
