DIY Makeup Tips

DIY Makeup Tips These steps can help you have beautiful makeup on your wedding day By Trisha Berendt

While some brides hire makeup artists to create their wedding beauty look, you can save money by doing it yourself. Starting weeks before the wedding, try different makeup techniques to find the perfect look for the special day. Not only will you be able to do your own wedding makeup after some practice, these skills will help you in everyday life too.

  • What You Need to Know
  • Applying wedding day makeup can be quite different than creating your everyday look. Not only do you have to look good in person, but your beautiful look has to translate in pictures as well. Not to worry. You can put your foundations, blushes, lipsticks, eye shadows and more to use to create a do-it-yourself wedding day look.

Creating a Beautiful Wedding Look Step 1:

Use a thin foundation as the base of your face makeup. Choose a shade that closely matches your natural skin tone. Tinted moisturizer works well for those with young, unblemished skin. Dust a thin layer of translucent powder over your face to set the foundation and get rid of any shine. Use a large round brush to avoid a cakey powder look.

Step 2:

Dust blush from the tops of your cheekbones out to your temples. Choose a sheer blush that comes in a delicate color that’s not too bright. Peaches and pinks work well for a wedding day look. Blush will make your face look warm and happy.

Step 3:

Line your lips before using lipstick. Choose a lip liner that matches the color of your lipstick. Cover your entire lips with the liner rather than just the edges. This helps the color stay throughout the day after kissing your new husband and greeting your guests. Avoid bold and dark lip colors because these can look poorly in pictures.

Step 4:

Stick to minimal eye shadow in lighter colors than you typically use every day. Dark eye shadows contrast with the white wedding dress and can look gaudy. Stick with peaches and pinks for the eyelids and light browns and tans for the crease. Use a medium eye shadow brush to help with blending rather than a sponge applicator. If you find that your makeup isn’t showing up in photographs during your pre-wedding makeup tests, use slightly darker shades and try again.

Step 5:

Apply a thin layer of brown or soft black eyeliner to your top lid. Get as close to the lash line as possible to create a natural look. Use soft black or brown mascara on the top lashes as well. Happy tears are expected on your wedding day. Avoid using liner and mascara on your bottom lid to prevent melting makeup underneath your eyes.

  • Tips & Warnings
  • When testing your DIY makeup before the wedding, wear white and take photographs to see how it will look in your wedding dress and in photos.
  • Carry a powder compact with you throughout your wedding day to get rid of any shine.
  • Avoid using concealer because it shows up as white patches in wedding photographs.
  • Steer clear of lip gloss because the veil can stick to your lips.
  • Be sure to test out your makeup, especially if you’re using new products, weeks before your wedding day in case you have an allergic reaction.
