Blog Archive DIY: Prom HAIR + MAKEUP!
Fun Fact: When I was in high school, I skipped my prom! But I’ve done makeup for TONS of proms since then!
If you can’t afford or just don’t want to pay for someone to do your hair and makeup for prom, don’t worry — you can do it yourself! I’ll show you how and I’m using products that aren’t very pricey and most can be found at the drugstore! I’ve also listed things you can use instead because there are three products I’ve used that aren’t on the cheap side but are favorites of mine and I use them almost everyday in case you wanted to invest in them.
MAKEUP — List of Products Used!:
EYES:
Too Faced Shadow Insurance — very much worth the price. Urban Decay’s Primer Potion is great, too in case you have that. Not sure which I like better yet to be honest! But, if you don’t have an eye shadow primer and don’t have the extra $20 to spend on this, you can try L’Oreal’s De-Crease or pat a little bit of Revlon’s Colorstay Liquid Foundation on your lids with a tiny bit of powder.
L’Oreal HIP Duo in “Sassy” — I used the brown shade. If you have MAC’s “Satin Taupe” eye shadow, it’s practically the EXACT same thing!
Wet n’ Wild Eye Shadow Trio in “Egyptian Sands” — This trio is well-loved by me and cost only about 3 or 4 dollars. Super creamy easily blendable eye shadows. Use a good base and you’re set!
Maybelline Waterproof Eye Liner Pencil — Creamy and smooth with staying power.
L’Oreal Collagen Mascara — Super black! Volumizes and lengthens. L’Oreal makes some of the BEST mascaras!
Ardell #120 False Lashes — my favorites!
FACE:
Kat Von D’s Tattoo Concealer — Pricey at $25 but one tube will last you a year as you only need a little. My favorite concealer and they’ve now expanded their color range so there’s something for everyone.
Revlon’s Colorstay Liquid Foundation — Amazing! Lasts FOREVER. Use a little at a time and make sure to blend quickly as once this dries it’s not going anywhere. Low SPF so it’s perfect for photos.
CHEEKS:
Maybelline Dream Mouse Blush in #25 Rose Petal — one of the best cream blushes I’ve come across. Long-lasting, easy to blend, not too wet. Amazing!
Cover Girl Blush in “Iced Plum”
LIPS:
Revlon Colorstay Lipstick in “Smooth Nude” — Fair-skinned girls have issues with finding good nudes that won’t wash them out. “Smooth Nude” is a good one to try.
I used a 1-inch barrel curling iron by Juan Juan. Never heard of this brand before, but their curling iron glides through my hair without snagging and does a great job curling my hair quickly.
After curling each piece with the 1-inch barrel Juan Juan curling iron, I’d quickly roll the hair and pin it against my scalp. Reason I did this is to get a better hold and more defined curl without having to use too much heat. Instead of letting the curl drop out of the iron and cool, by rolling it and pinning it up and letting it cool in the pins, your getting the most out of the heat you used. If you want looser waves, you can skip pinning and just let them fall and cool that way.
I finished with the Juan Juan light hold spray. It’s lightweight so it won’t weigh down your hair and keeps your curls looking their best. If you buy the products separately, I believe they’re $118, but if you buy them together it’s only $69. Good stuff!
Hope that these videos and tips made you more confident about doing your own hair and makeup for prom!
My tip is to practice what you want to do once or twice before the event so that when the day comes you know exactly what to do and what works for you!
