Application Tips & Techniques
“The next step I’m going to do is I’m going to use a nice medium to dark color. I’m going to get a little bit on my brush here and I’ve switched brushes from a blending brush to a nice firmer eyeshadow brush. This is going to give me a little bit more control especially when we’re working with these colors and I’m going to take it and I’m going to press the color right onto her eye. Now, this is area that I already covered with the first eyeshadow which makes it very easy for me to blend this color right on top of it. When you’re doing a traditional smoky eye, you’re going to end up with the darkest color right next to the lash line and then it’s going to fade outward. So the traditional eye where you have a lighter lid and then a bit of a darker crease, we’re kind of doing the opposite here. So we want to make that transition as smooth and as seamless as what we can do. Now I’m going to blend it upward into the crease but I’m not going to blend it all the way into the crease at the edge of where we have the first color cause I still want a little bit of that first color peaking through. Smoky eyes are a little bit messy sometimes because you are using such dark colors. So if you can it easiest to do your eyes first and then you can wipe away any excess shadow that’s falling, I know that seems a little backwards. When you’re getting ready a lot of times you want to have your foundation on and you want to do all of your other steps first, but this requires a little bit more clean up and sometimes it’s easier if you just have clean skin to wipe it away. As you can see I’m also pressing the color into the lid that way the skin grabs the color and holds it into place. If I go back and forth with this brush it’s just going to float the shadow into the air and then it’s not going to get exactly where you want it, you’ll end up wasting some of your eyeshadow.”
